GMIL
She's in her 80s. She can't get on the floor and play with the kids, you know? I don't know that she would even if she could, for that matter. She and her DD were not either one that kind of family member..........
Anyway.....
The two year old shows her things/toys and talks and sometimes she understands him, sometimes not. He doesn't really care either way. He'll come back later and show her something else.
The eight year old loves to read so he'll sit by her on the couch and read a book and she thinks that's great.
The five year old. He's a play, play, play kid. Can sit and play by himself for a long time with toys or boxes or bowls or whatever........good imagination. NOT one to just sit and chat for a long time, though. Doesn't have anything in common with her, you know?
During the weekdays they come home, have snack, do homework, play some and then we start the eat, clean up, shower, get ready for bed thing.... and she disappears to go to sleep immediately after the eat part of that........so there's limited time for her to notice what's going on with the kids then.
On the weekends it's more apparent. She ALWAYS. EVERY weekend says the same thing:
I don't think he feels good. He keeps going to his room and is too quiet. You can see it in his eyes.
He feels fine. He'll tell me if he doesn't. He goes to his room (or outside) to play because he's bored in there. He's five. He wants to PLAY. That look? It's boredom but he's trying to be polite as best he knows how............
Stop wishing sickness on my kid! Geesh!
